Uploads finally re-enabled - CensusPlus 5.0.2 Released

Rollie

My apologies on the lengthy delay on getting uploads re-enabled, I have just been completely buried with real life work.

Alas, I finally had some time to get the website updated and we should be good to go! Uploads have been re--enabled and the standard 15 minute delay between uploads has been temporarily lifted.

Processing of data will hopefully commence in the morning. I have to allow a time consuming update to occur first which I didn't catch needed to be done until today.

I have also updated the latest version of CensusPlus 5.0.2 which can be downloaded from the site and soon to be found on all of the common AddOn sites!

Thank you all for being patient with me and happy Censusing!

I noticed that on current realm pages the new races are stil not visible, i presume this is due to no new data being available, but the coding has been added and with new data the new races will also be visible?

the 81-85 level range seem to be added already.

43 uploads done via webpage worked like a charm :)

UniUpload, however, seems bugged.. :(

Noticed the same problem last night with the Uniupload process. Assume the standard delay is still in place for that. Just pushed up my 2nd update with no error.

And just did my 3rd and final upload for the year. (40 minutes after first .. when I got around to it.)

Yes it is true.. since I saw Rollie was having problems.. I cut back on doing multi realm census runs. Instead I ran a new Worgan up from 1 and into the Outlands. Ran a Goblin up 20-30 levels ( I forget where I stopped to push the Worgan)

I did not tweak the addon for manual /who, will need to revisit that.

I've found a bug... But I think it's more site-related than CensusPlus related..

You don't get any Goblins (possibly also Worgens) when you search for toons.

With (almost) all my addons, [b:0229b896c8]Vixx @ EU-Shadowsong [/b:0229b896c8]should be possible to find, but she's not :( Even if I just search for Goblins on the server, the result comes back as 0..

I've screened the LUAs before upload and know for a fact that she was in several of them.

Hmm.. just did search for the Worgan I pushed over level 60.
and had no problem finding Fidohowls @ Cenarius
However since I only turned in 3 updates only the last 2 caught him in level updates.

The Goblin I was playing didn't make the level minimum to show up in the data here.

As far as Vixx goes.. after scanning the 128 EU servers that have a character of that name http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/search?q=vixx&f=wowcharacter&page=3

I found that the armory shows level 19.. which is below the minimum cutoff level.

Unless Rollie changed it again that minimum is I believe at 30 now.
1974ER says:
January 1,2011 at 6:52
Correct... my characters of levels 10 to 29 have ceased to update and show dates from November 30 to December 6, despite the fact that they were pretty much all online either yesterday and / or Thursday.
Asagi says:
January 1,2011 at 8:52
Oh is the cut off due to the size of the db? Cause I know the Armory cut off is level 10? Wouldn't this make the population counts lower?

I was just about to ask this type of question.

Does Census no longer count levels 1-5? Or just not display/archive them? The population count I've been getting is much lower than would seem. 2,048 when the population is listed as "High".
1974ER says:
January 1,2011 at 13:23
Asagi, yes, Rollie was forced to push the cutoff higher, at least for the time being. Also, yes, armory cuts of at 10. And no, because all characters are still counted, just those below 30 don't go to DB / get updated at the moment.

Faline, 1-5 is still counted, it's just not directly visible (without engaging verbose mode) as the bars are only shown for levels 6 to 85, due to there currently being place for only 80 bars.

Also, are you censusing both sides? High does not guarantee that BOTH sides have high populations as Blizzard's "High" applies to the realm as a whole.

No, I'm not counting both sides, but 2K Alliance on Lightbringer seems unusually low. I can't bring myself to think that Horde has a 30K+ online population. And this 2K online population report is coming during a Saturday afternoon. Highly unusual which leads me to think that maybe the count is off?

Hmm.. we need to put some real info into these numbers.
Over the years Blizzards IT people keep an eye on the numbers of people who can be playing on any server at the same time. When they get the numbers right they maximize the number of people per machine.. i.e. maximize their profits. When they are low in their numbers.. we have low pop servers that end up as more capital costs per player. When they are high in their numbers they have queues and angry people who aren't able to play.
Since the initial beta of World of Warcraft there have been at least three major hardware upgrade cycles. The upshot of all this is that currently Blizzard figures that 4000 players online at one time was a very good number that gave them wiggle room. With the release of Cataclysm Blizzard decided to eat up some of their wiggle room to cut back the numbers of Queues they were getting.
In short... currently various realms are now queue triggering at somewhere between 4500-5000.

So the thought of 30k players on a machine at anyone time.. isn't going to happen. On the other hand the 2k count on the Alliance side you are looking at about 40% of all the players that could be on the machine at any one time.

Honestly, my memory may be faulty. But I thought that a few months ago I was seeing population counts of 10K, which was why 2K counts were making me do a double-take. Am I mis-remembering?

You may rather be confusing different values with eachother... let me show how:

Population on specific server and faction at any given moment is exactly X (this value is only known to Blizzard).

We have figures on WCR, which amount to less than X (we can't see characters that aren't active... and don't catch 100% of the ones who are, because no faction on any realm gets 24 hour coverage from us). This value can be close to X on a very heavily censused server and very far from it, if the number of censuses is low / zero.

Your local .lua has values, which often amount to less than the values on the WCR (because relatively few realms are cencused exclusively by a single submission maker all the time).

And last comes the value, which you receive as you run a single census (this value is likely to be smaller than your current local .lua value, unless you have just pruned / purged your local file).

In short during exact moment you complete as scan you may have a value of 30k on WCR, about 10k in your local .lua and see exactly (for example) 2438 characters in a single census.

As a specific, real example: EU-Silvermoon currently has 25 302 Alliance according to WCR (I have supplied some of this data). My local .lua file contains 9 035 characters on that specific faction after the census that just finished. And that finished census contained info on 1 452 characters (of which I had not seen 556 since I last pruned my .lua).

If you distinctly remember seeing a value of about 10k, it's likely to have been the total amount in your local .lua (because that's entirely possible, which I know, because I have at times had about 12k+ characters in my local .lua for some heavily populated and censused by me factions).

It was only mentioned briefly in one thread, I suspect quite a few people missed it, so you are not alone. :( And even though I didn't miss it, I am now back to manual tracking as I have a LARGE number of sub-level 30 characters that still see some playtime most days.

I'm looking at the Alliance side on Thunderhorn and it shows Worgens as being the second most popular race there, just behind Humans, but just ahead of Night Elves, with the most popular class being Druids followed closely by Hunters. On the Horde side, I don't see that many new Goblins be added on the realms I've looked at.

Rollie says:
January 2,2011 at 14:24
THe process is keeping up just fine so I have re-enabled sub level 30's for the time being. We'll keep an eye on it!

I've started to sub censuses but I was wondering how many times to click purge or prune?

(I'm also trying to do some on the most wanted list) :D
1974ER says:
January 3,2011 at 3:32
Pruning / purging frequency really depends on a few factors:

1) How many and how heavily populated realms you census.

2) How often do you submit data.

3) Do you care about the data yourself, in other words, does the info in your local .lua interest you.

Some people work on such low population factions that they might infact never need to purge and pruning once a month suffices more than well... others, like Balgair or myself... well, purging or at least pruning is pretty much daily routine.
shadowslip says:
January 3,2011 at 5:4

most of mine are on sylvanas so a daily purge is needed.

It appears you have submitted data from version 6.0.0 of CensusPlus. The latest version is 5.0.2. Please download the latest version and rerun CensusPlus. Your data will not be accepted unless submitted using the latest version of CensusPlus. You can get the latest version here :

I was having this same issue. I downloaded and installed the 5.0.2 from this site and still had the same issue. I completly removed CensusPlus folder from my addons folder and selected ignor on my Curse Client for the CensusPlus addon. I was now able to upload without an error. I have yet to see my uploaded information on the website, but that sometimes takes a while.
Balgair says:
October 1,2012 at 21:5
Guys, please don't upload using the old version, wait for the website to be updated, since until it's updated, Pandaren, Monks and lvls 86-90 won't be processed. Which means your submissions will miss all the most useful information, and as such, there's not really any value to uploading until the site is ready to process the new data.

I'd love to be able to give any updates on timeframes here, but only Rollie can make that happen, and as bringoutyourdead said in another thread, we don't like to hassle him too much; he's well aware it's needed, and hopefully it'll come sooner rather than later.
